Nokia

Nokia 5700

For some time I had almost the idea that Nokia was disappearing from the market slowly. The models were all a lot alike and there weren’t a lot of exciting things going on. But I think Nokia’s developers were preparing for what was yet to come. The design of the Nokia mobile phones is becoming more and more stylish and fits perfectly in this time and day. The Nokia 5700 XpressMusic is such a handset with a trendy design. At first sight, it seems like there’s nothing special about the Nokia 5700, but when looking a bit further you will notice something unusual about the Nokia 5700 XpressMusic. In the Nokia 5700 XpressMusic, Nokia combines communi-cation and multimedia and lets it blend into one whole. I had the chance to test the Nokia 5700 XpressMusic for a while; my findings can be read in the following Nokia 5700 XpressMusic review.

Nokia 500

Nokia just announced a new standalone GPS navigation system called Nokia 500. Nokia 500 has a wide 4.3″ touch screen, bluetooth feature so you can take calls on your bluetooth phone hands free, and FM transmitter so you can listen to your audio files on your car’s stereo.

Nokia 500 is also capable of receiving live traffic info which can be displayed on the split screen in addition to other details that may help during your journey. It also does text-to-speech which currently is only supported on high end GPS devices.

Nokia E71

Apparently this is the leaked image of the new Nokia E71 which made an appearance at a Nokia event in Sydney recently. This device is very well equipped with WiFi, HSDPA (3.6MBps), and a 3.2MP camera, and of course the embedded GPS - seems like Nokia is determined to put a GPS receiver in each one of their devices.

It will have a QWERTY keyboard (in case you could’t tell from the picture), offer bluetooth connectivity, and have a microSD card slot for memory expansion.

More than likely Nokia E71 will use Nokia Maps 2.0 as well and if you pay your fees you can also get turn-by-turn directions, download city guides with millions of points of interest.

Nokia N98 with GPS (concept)

Here is a great photoshop effort from the Fre
nch: the Nokia N98 with amazing features including an integrated GPS receiver just like the N95 (Nokia N98 high resolution).

Here are the made up specs for this made up phone:

  • 7.2 mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens
  • 5x optical zoom (20x with digital)
  • 3.5″ inch touch screen
  • integrated GPS receiver
  • integrated TNT receiver (Télévision Numérique Terrestre - this is what French call digitally broadcast TV channels)
  • Symbian S70 3rd edition
  • 3D graphics accelerator
  • bluetooth
  • Wi-Fi (b,g,n)
  • HSDPA
  • video recording at 720×576 and 30fps
  • Multimedia support

5x optical zoom made us laugh the hardest. It is not mentioned in this list but I’m sure the N98 will be able to handle microSD cards and have a battery that lasts 12 hours on a single charge.

Nokia N810 Wimax Edition

MLI was able to get a bit of hands on time with the Nokia N810 WiMAX edition at CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas this week. The N810 WiMAX edition is essentially the same hardware as the standard N810 but with the added WiMAX capability. The WiMAX differentiates itself visually with a darker color scheme. It also runs a new version of the Internet Tablet OS, which will also be made available to the N800 and N810 later this year.

Read on for our pictures of the device in action, plus a couple of bonus shots of the latest Nokia phones on display.

UMAX PowerCam DV680

SONY ROLLS OUT WORLD’S SMALLEST FULL HD CAMCORDER

The new pocket-sized Sony HDR-TG1 Handycam® camcorder’s weighty high-definition capability will appeal to vacationers who prefer to “travel light.”

This diminutive camcorder weighs in at only ten ounces. It has an ultra-portable body measuring just 1.3-inches wide by 4.7-inches tall by 2.5-inches deep.
It is a full-featured camcorder that can record 1920 x 1080 HD video and 4-megapixel digital photos directly to Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo™ or PRO Duo Mark2 media cards. Its size and full recording capability makes it the world’s smallest full HD camcorder

Another bonus for any traveler is the camcorder’s durable titanium body and premium hard coating that makes it highly resistant to scratches and quite fashionable.

It ships with a supplied 4GB PRO Duo Mark2 media card so it’s ready to go straight out of the box and you don’t have to make space in your travel bag for extra discs or tapes.
“Sony was the first to introduce a travel-sized camcorder with 8 mm technology in the 1980’s, and it revolutionized the travel and electronics industries,” said Kelly Davis, director of camcorder marketing at Sony Electronics. “This new model is a great example of our expertise in miniaturization, as well as advanced imaging technologies with features like face detection.”

Face Detection for the Best Possible Picture
This new model incorporates face detection technology for both video and still images, a technology also shared with select Sony Cyber-shot® digital cameras. It can identify up to eight faces in the camcorder’s 2.7-inch touch panel LCD screen, and automatically adjust focus, exposure, color control for natural-looking skin tones, and when photos are taken, flash control.

The model also allocates more encoding bits to a detected face during the encoding process for the best possible picture when people are the subjects.
Not Just Another Pretty Face
The camcorder features advanced video and audio technologies with simple, intuitive operation. It is equipped with a high-quality Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® 10x optical zoom lens and 2-megapixel ClearVid™ CMOS sensor with Exmor™-derived technology, engineered to minimize picture noise.

The camera’s BIONZ™ processing engine also features noise reduction capabilities in addition to fast processing speeds. This engine powers the model’s dynamic range optimization feature, which automatically adjusts under- or over-exposed areas in a picture. These technologies together produce high-resolution video and photos with natural color reproduction and rich details.
Audio is recorded in Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel surround sound and features a built-in zoom microphone, delivering clear recordings of your subjects along with the video.
Designed to be the perfect travel companion, the HDR-TG1 camcorder will ship with supplied accessories in May for about $900. There is also an optional travel kit (Sony ACC-TCH5) that includes a battery, travel charger and pouch for about $100. Plus, there is a custom-fit case (Sony LCM-TGA) with brushed metal accents available as an accessory for about $50.

Sony introduces the new VDR-MC10, a DVD recorder for Sony’s Handycam camcorders. Sony VDR-MC10 allows you to record videos from Handycam to DVD directly without a PC. The VDR-MC10 supports AVCHD and HDMI. It has a 2.7-inch LCD display.

Sony HDR-TG1 Handycam - World’s Smallest Full HD Camcorder

Sony announces its new HDR-TG1 Handycam, which claims to be the smallest Full HD camcorder in the world, measuring 1.3×4.7×2.5-inch. Sony HDR-TG1 is able to capture Full HD 1920×1080 videos or 4 Megapixel images.

It offers a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 10x optical zoom, a 2.7-inch LCD touchscreen, BIONZ image processor, and support for 5.1 Dolby Digital audio recording. The handy camcorder comes with a 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo Mark2 card.

The small camcorder is named as HD TG3E in Europe market. Watch the video after the break:

Sony Handycam HDR-CX7

Sony has unveiled a lineup of 3 new high-def
Handycam camcorders led by the HDR-CX7 which is currently the smallest and lightest AVCHD camcorder available. Weighing only 15 ounces with the battery, the HDR-CX7 can record up to 3 hours of full HD 1080 video onto an 8GB Memory Stick.

The camcorder has a 2.7 inch LCD screen which makes it easy to navigate menus and browse recorded content on the “film roll”. Recording takes advantage of a 3 megapixel sensor for HD video and the camera will take 6 megapixel still images. Both pictures and recording use Sony’s SteadyShot feature to help with the unavoidable shaky video or blurry pictures when trying to get footage on the go. The sound won’t suffer with this, either. The HDR-CX7 records in Dolby 5.1 surround sound which gets compressed and saved in the MPEG-4 file format with the HD video.

Handycam stations come with this device as well as the other two HD camcorders Sony released, and the docking stations all have a slick single “Burn” button to go along with the supplied software to make DVD creations easier. The recording media on the Memory Stick can then be played back on not only a PC, but this summer Sony expects to have a software upgrade to support playback on your PS3 game console as well.
